Weekly Photo Challenge: Beginning

The BEGINNING of an oncoming rain brought red drama to the sky.  The clouds form at the beginning of dusk with the setting sun.  Awesome!  A great photo op to just step outside the front door.

Many great BEGINNINGS!

Lens Flare

Recently I took photos and learned spots that appeared were due to “lens flare“.

Soon after I found an article published by PopPhoto.com with a set of photographs containing lens flare, which were entries for a challenge:

Lens companies often go to great lengths to fight lens flare. But, to some shooters, those unpredictable streaks, spots, and stars of light make for an extremely appealing aesthetic. For last month’s photo challenge, we asked you to go out and push your lenses to their limits. The results will doubtlessly be a bit controversial because some folks just aren’t fans of the flare. But, we think there’s a lot of beauty in it.

Cambridge in Colour explains lens flare very well, providing what it looks like, how it happens, and how to minimize.

After taking photographs for years and years, 2013 is was my first experience with lens flare.

Basking in the Park

Working my way towards a new telephoto lens +400mm.  I decided to try the mirror lens, Opteka 500mm-1000mm, since it was more affordable for now.   The new toy arrived yesterday and I took several practice shots.  I am a shaky person to begin with, and cannot hold my DSLR securely to avoid shake.  Using a tripod is my solution.  During the practice shots, though, I did not use the tripod.  This photo did not turn out too bad.  There were many deleted, however.  This lens may work out for the time being.  The photo was taken with the teleconverter attached, making it f=1000mm. The contrast is slightly adjusted in Photoshop 6 with no other enhancements.    I take photos for fun and really enjoy it.  This serves my purpose for now.
